The kind they sell at 7/11 and Mapco and so on? Which do you recommend?

I am looking to buy a few cigars to celebrate with a few friends, but I have never purchased or smoked a cigar. What type is a basic (and cheap) type I can ask for at a convenience store? And will I need to cut it (like is the practice at cigar stores)?
